Was your well or the well of someone you know in NH affected by the drought in the last year? Read this article for more information!

Last summer many of you had issues with your wells, or knew of someone who had issues.  The Drought Assistance Program (DAP) was created by NH Department of Environmental Services to assist low-income homeowners with their need for immediate and reliable water supply, and to provide a way to prepare for future threats of drought.  During 2020 and even into 2021 wells had gone dry and needed to be redrilled or deepened.

This fund was established under RSA 485-F with funds received from a jury verdict in a trial with ExxonMobil Corp as part of a 10 year lawsuit seeking damages for the statewide problem of methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MtBE) contamination of the state's groundwater resources.  This Trust fund will provide for the protection of the drinking and groundwater of the state.

The DAP is for Low Income homeowners to provide short term relief with the provision of bottled water and financial assistance for activities associated with improving or replacing the homeowners well or connectingthe residence to an available community water supply.
